FOOD & DIVERSITY FAIR - GAMPOLA, GIRIBAWA
The food and diversity fair at the Gampola, Giribawa pilot site was collaboratively organized by the Department of Ayurveda and the Biodiversity for Food & Nutrition Project; with the main aim of identifying the food diversity existing in the pilot site and dissemination of novel traditional food recipes. The fair was successfully implemented at the District Secretariat Office premises at Giribawa.
Local agro biodiversity found within home gardens and the local habitat along with various local dishes prepared utilizing the available agro-biodiversity were exhibited. Also aimed at popularizing local nutritious food and beverages; different dishes novel as well as traditional local dishes were re-introduced to the community.
Avenues related to linking local women at the pilot site to local small scale business opportunities were discussed with the intent of linking the women to the new Hela Bojun outlet to be opened at Gampola, Giribawa.
